Concrete Resurfacing Process

Stage 1 Measure & quote concrete to be resurfaced

The first question is always how much does it cost? The cost of your job will be determined by many varying factors.
The size of the job is one factor, it takes the same time for a contractor to do 10m2 as it does 100m2. The cheaper sqaure meter rate for a large job doesn’t become fessible for some of the smaller jobs. Smaller jobs are not out of the question, but we have to take into mind that additional labour charges are normally included in the quote.
Accessability is important, breaking a large job up into lots of small areas can be very time consuming. The substrate condition and preperation required for resurfacing can vary the price, some jobs will require excess product to allow for leveling.

Stage 2 Plan & Design your Concrete Resurfacing Project

Step 1 – Pick a Base Coat Colour

If you plan on having a pattern then you will need to pick a base coat colour, if you don’t want any patterns and would just prefer a blanket spray skip the first two steps and continue to Step 3.

Step 2 – Choose Pattern

Most patterns are applied with a special tape after the base coat has been finished this gives you the flexibility to change the tile size, the thickness of the grout line (6mm, 9mm or 12mm) or the ability to design your own custom pattern. Alternatively if you are after a stone like pattern there are a range of pre-cut stencil that can be used. In our range of concrete stencils we have borders and speacial features also.

Step 3 – Choose your main top coat colour

If you choose to apply a pattern the main top coat colour will be applied over your base coat. Your main top coat should have some contrast difference to your base coat

Step 4 – Choose fleck colours (Optional)

Choosing a fleck colour gives your finish more a natural athuentic look and really enhances the overlook of finsihed job. Typically pick between 1-3 colours to either contrast against your main colour or blend in with a slighty different shade.

Stage 3Clean & Prepare for Concrete Resurfacing

Preparation is the key to success long lasting job. Each job depending on the area is usually pressure washed and degreased to remove any unwanted surface containments. A light acid wash is used to remove any cement laitance (thin crust of fine cement on the surface) and open up the pores of the concrete. This Stage is usually complete the day prior to the commencement of work.

Stage 4 Application of Concrete Resurfacing System

Step 1 – Priming the Concrete

The surface is primed ready for the base coat.

Step 2 – Base Coat

A thin layer is applied over your concrete to give you a clean base to work with.

Step 3 – Applying the Pattern

The pattern and borders are applied either by a pre-cut paper concrete stencil pattern or by the use of special fibre reinforced tapes

Step 4 – Spraying Decorative Coat

The Concrete Resurfacing Compound is spayed over the surface. Additional coats in varying colours are also lightly sprayed to a some depth.

Step 5 – Clean & Seal

All of the tapes and stencil are removed. The area is swept clean. Sealer is applied to protect your new decorative concrete
